Leva Podcast #3 - Sarah's Journey as Executive and Mother

Sarah’s story is an inspiring tale of what you can do when you combine intelligence, hard work, and curiosity. She may have started at the bottom of the ladder, but she didn’t stay there long!

Sarah was most recently the Executive Vice President of Direct-to-Consumer Global Product Management at WarnerMedia & Head of Product at HBO Max. She has had one heck of an impressive career spanning PR, marketing, and digital product management for some major brands, including DIRECTV. When Sarah became a mother, she kept detailed logs of her baby’s sleep, feeding habits, and diapers. She knew something was wrong with her son. He wasn’t sleeping, and he would cry anytime he’d nurse. Even though a pediatrician initially dismissed her, her innate curiosity and resilience allowed her to advocate for herself and her newborn. She did her own research, digging into why her son didn’t want to nurse and why he wasn’t sleeping well. It turned out he was experiencing reflux (GERD). Once she had a diagnosis, she was able to alter her diet and work with her pediatrician to get his symptoms under control. Sarah also shares her story of navigating an arcane system to piece together her parental leave, how she planned for her re-entry, and the inevitable fears we feel when balancing being a new parent with being a career-driven person. Sarah is currently between corporate jobs, but she certainly hasn’t slowed down. She is splitting her time between family and personal endeavors. She’s relished spending quality time with her now 10-year-old son and volunteering at his school. She’s also been able to focus on a passion project, her family’s vineyard in the Santa Barbara wine region. She is cultivating what will soon become her first batch of wines produced by the vineyard.
